Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) Science Facilities Improvements

About This Project

2014

Situated in the heart of Middle Tennessee State University’s campus, the new Science Building provides state-of-the-art learning and research facilities for undergraduate and graduate students. The project consists of a new 3-story science building with approximately 257,000 square feet of gross floor space. The “C” shaped building, constructed primarily of brick, metal panel and aluminum curtainwall, creates an inviting courtyard containing both landscape and hardscape. All of these elements combine to create a space that facilitates learning and enhances the architectural character at MTSU. The new facility features spaces for teaching and research laboratories, classrooms, lecture halls, faculty offices, support spaces, a greenhouse, and a vivarium. A 3-story glass atrium creates a dramatic entrance to the building and provides elegant space for social gatherings and student presentations. Mechanical penthouses are located on each of the 3 building wings. The project includes 3 separate components: the new Science Building; demolition of 4 dormitory buildings; and a new 10,000-square foot Chiller Plant. LEED Design.
