North Alabama Medical Center

About This Project

2018

North Alabama Medical Center opened the doors of its brand new 485,000-square-foot, 263-bed facility in December 2018, following a carefully orchestrated and detailed move that was a year in the making. The new hospital, formerly known as Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital, is a $230 million facility that brings increased access to high quality, state-of-the-art care for residents of northern Alabama and the surrounding region. It consists of a 5-story patient tower with a large one-story ancillary area, including the powerhouse extending beyond the tower perimeter. The ICU wing of the tower, at the rear of the facility, is 3 floors with provisions for 2 future floors of vertical expansion. There is a large sloping canopy and 2-story tall lobby space at the main entrance to the facility. The construction project is the second largest in the city’s history.
