About This Project
2020-2023
This new, 1,400-student high school is being constructed in phases on the same site as its predecessor. Only the original high school’s competition gymnasium will remain and be renovated to become a part of the new facility.
The high school will be organized into departments with specialized academies for Freshman and Medical Arts. A large, central commons is the heart of the school. Located near the media center, cafeteria and courtyard, this social hub will feature a social stair and showcase the community’s history and diverse student population.
The new facility will showcase an auditorium for 700 that can be accessed separately from the rest of the building. The gymnasium and media center will also be accessible without compromising the security of the rest of the school. The media center will include a coffee shop and school store to encourage student use and support after-school events.
The school’s footprint will be organized around a central courtyard space. The secure courtyard will be used for classes, independent and group study and social activities. Traffic circulation throughout campus will be redesigned to separate buses, cars and pedestrians, and to maximize green space outside the school.
Phase 1 included a 90,000-square foot new addition for classrooms, a new kitchen, dining space, band and choir practice areas, even a functioning ambulance classroom with hospital beds for real-world classroom and work experience. All work is being done without interrupting any of the daily school activities. The Natatorium was constructed as part of Phase 2.
