Metro Nashville Public Schools opened the doors to the new Pre-K through 5th Goodlettsville Elementary School August 2023, welcoming more than 500 students (with capacity for 800) and staff.
The new 81,750-square-foot building boasts 21st century modern design and technology, with flexible teaching spaces, including four “houses” to put students into smaller communities with staff, elements to support student’s sensory experience, pre-K and K-5 playgrounds, separate car and bus access and the fan-favorite – a slide from the second-floor classroom wing to the grand hall on the ground floor. The “Great Hall” has clerestory windows that organize the classroom wings, while also connecting it to the library/media center and administrative areas. The library/media center is composed of large expanses of north facing glass, visually connecting the exterior and the community. Other special features include a sensory garden and interior sensory nooks.
The facility is pursuing LEED v4 BD+C: SC Gold Certification, maintaining a high standard of energy efficiency for MNPS.
